Confessions of a Yankees Fan
Okay, so I'm a fan of the Bronx Bombers. Some things in life you just can't help. My Dad raised me on steady doses of Yankees, Angels and Dodgers baseball. Mine was a confused youth. I've enjoyed the curse of the Bambino.
By now it's no news that the curse has seemingly ended. The Bosox are World Champions. The surprising thing for me is that I found myself pulling for the boys from Beantown. Even in the seventh game of the ALCS I deep down wanted Boston to win. Although during the game I had some strange, mixed feelings. There was this belief that the Yankees just couldn't lose an important game to the Sox. I went to bed in the top of the fifth and was glad the next morning to see that Boston won that game.
I didn't even watch one pitch of the series. At least not live. That's weird for me. There was a time when no Saturday afternoon during the season was complete without sitting down to catch the game of the week. That was when the Saturday game was one of a few games broadcast during the week. The opportunities are greater now, I'm just not interested.
Maybe it's because with cable and satellite we have too much of a good thing available. More likely is that professional athletes are known as much for criminal acts, adulterous behavior, illegal drug use and astronomical salaries as for their on-field accomplishments. I'm bored with professional athletics on almost all levels. Golf and bull riding being the only exceptions.
Well, there you have it. I must not be much of a Yankees fan. Congratulations to Boston. Just remember that the boys from the Bronx will be back to challenge next year. And just remember that in the big scheme of things, I don't really care...........
