Jim's Pond - Exploring the Universe of Ideas
"Beware when the great God lets loose a thinker on this planet. Then all things are at risk. It is as when a conflagration has broken out in a great city, and no man knows what is safe, or where it will end." --Ralph Waldo Emerson

Management Focus for 2005

Each holiday season I spend a significant amount of time thinking about the new year. It's easy for me to get the doldrums after a busy Christmas campaign and a lazy week off at the very end of a busy year. So I try to hit the ground running in January with plans to fill my time and give me motivation at work.

After careful consideration I've chosen to focus on SIMPLICITY. Bill Jensen has much to say on the subject. There are other good ideas out there. I've taken Pete's challenge and picked up the Bill Jensen book Simplicity. I'm a little more than half way through the book and will finish by the first of the year.

Pete has picked up The Simplicity Survival Handbook and has some good things to say. I've got to get a copy for myself. These books are more reference manuals than one-time reads. I'm sure that we will go back and re-read these books many times. I'm also going to look for other material.

My next step is to set some goals and then communicate my expectations to the UEN Technical Services managers. I hope to have their input and help in working toward a more simple work environment with great clarity of purpose leading to even greater clarity of action. This should be interesting and perhaps even fun..........
