We've been enjoying a leisurely holiday season, taking time away from work, spending time with the family and eating a lot. It's been fun. This evening Bob received a call that dampened our spirits a bit. His National Guard unit has been placed on active duty. He is to report to Fort Bliss on January 28, 2005. No other information was given.

My wife has often said that values aren't values until they cost something. In this case, we've taught patriotism and duty to our children. It all sounds good. Those values are about to be put to a severe test. I am proud of Bob. He signed up after the U.S. went into Afghanistan. He will likely be heading for Iraq. We'll know more tomorrow............
