Although the date on this Oracle whitepaper, Business Rules in BC4J (pdf), is from August 2002, its thorough and structured treatment of the subject makes it a great read. It was written by the team in Oracle Consulting that develops Oracle JHeadstart. Future releases of BC4J, travelling under the new moniker of "ADF Business Components", will address suggestions raised by the JHeadstart team in how to make capturing these types of commonly used business rule "patterns" more easy and declarative.
