Oy! Sometimes the onion is so right on it's painful. And to add
to it, the devestating ridiculousness is actually humorous. Why
is it that folks like the Onion and the Daily Show
actually get to the heart of stories better than most major media
outlets? It's not that they have facts the rest don't, but like Harry Smith's liner notes to the Anthology of American Music, they manage to hit the simple heart of a story with piercing directness. Complexity is simple (and oxymoronic).
So, here's the instigating onion quote:
Who would have thought that a bad Austrian artist
who's obsessed with the human physical ideal could assemble such a
rabid political following? and, yeah, I know Atrios got there first, but when doesn't he?
