The most under-appreciated shortcut key. F2. In Excel, Windows Explorer, Visio, PhotoShop and many other applications, it essentially says "I want to edit the text of the thing I have selected". Good for re-naming digital photos you are reviewing, w/o having to resort to the mouse.

I know F2 dates back to Lotus 1-2-3, not sure if it goes farther than that.
