In Life, the Universe and Everything Douglas Adams postulated the existence of Bistromath. I don't remember the details but it involved dithering over restaurant bills, working out who had what and still ending up short. Well I've just come back from Dinner with friends at Luigi Malone's. There were 11 of us (I think). We got an itemised receipt; we used calculators; we added 10 percent for the service charge and then rounded up so we wouldn't be stingy. We still ended up four euro short! I'd been past Luigi Malones often enough over the years but I'd never eaten in it before. It was an absolutely delicious meal. I ordered Buffalo Wings to start with as did Paul Hanlon, who was sitting opposite me. When the waiter reappared and asked who had ordered the Buffalo Wings he was carrying a gi-normous plate of the things. I assumed that he had brought one big plate between the two of us so I indicated to myslef and Paul. I assumed wrong. He placed the plate I had seen in front of me and then a hitherto unseen plate in front of Paul. They were gorgeous.
