Second Place Is the First Loser

My half-hearted attempt at predicting the outcome of recent sports events didn't turn out so well. The Texas Longhorns finished second at the College World Series to Cal-State Fullerton, then stumbled through a PR snafu when they didn't stick around for the awards ceremony.

I also thought Americans Andy Roddick and Serena Williams would win the Wimbledon singles titles. Roddick was outgunned by Switzerland's Roger Federer in the final, while Williams appeared to be caught off-guard by the sharpness of Russian teenager Maria Sharapova.

So instead of picking three winners, I picked the three runners-up. Not much money in that.
