Vegas, Baby

While there's nothing terribly wrong with Joel Stein's cover story in this week's Time magazine about Las Vegas, it's yet another example of how major newsweeklies are on the trailing end of any pop culture trend. The city's advertising slogan, "What Happens Here, Stays Here", has been out there since at least last year and sent a clear signal that Vegas has bounced back from it's family-friendly activities and returned to an atmosphere of big, outsized, but clean vices.

Speaking of Vegas, I'm headed out to Sin City in a few weeks for my sister's wedding. She's doing it up right, getting married at the Viva Las Vegas Wedding Chapel by an Elvis impersonator. This will be my first trip to Vegas and when I tell people that, I get the kind of reaction I might get if I told them I still use Betamax.
