Warm for a Change. This is the view from the Staten Island Ferry about to leave Manhattan in the early evening about a week ago. The temperature sign on the Watchtower building across the East River in Brooklyn Heights reads 30 c. (How many times has the Brookyn Bridge been photographed?) I'm in the process of moving, so my postings might be variable, but I'll try to keep my audience entertained as best I can.

GENERAL WIRELESS

Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and Cellular. The Ultimate Convergence Device?

Texas Instrument is introducing their WANDA (Wireless Any Network Digital Assistant) reference design courtesy of Brighthand. This includes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and GSM/GPRS in a single device, and will support the Pocket PC platform. If anything, it demonstrates the growing demand for wi-fi in all new handheld product. Dell (formerly Dell Computer) is also announcing that an "upcoming member of the Axim line will probably offer 802.11g, " as well as Bluetooth. Again, courtesy of Brighthand.

"Sprint Unveils Wi-Fi Strategy," an article posted at the WirelessWeek web site, shows that even the cellular services are accepting the importance of wi-fi. They can easily incorporate this service into their billing structure. Verizon has also been offering free public hot spots in Manhattan to its DSL customers.

Blogging Audio Interviews

Chris Lydon continues to produce audio interviews of various luminaries of the blogging world using short segments (about 5 minutes) of mp3's posted on his blog. I've been reading the daily postings of Winer, Weinberger and Cone, but Chris' interviews allows them to talk about themselves and their views on blogging which provides a better background to understanding their blog work.

CLINICAL WIRELESS

Knoxville goes wireless

This article provided by KnoxNews.com reports that "Wi-Fi fever is spreading to medium-sized markets such as Knoxville." Mention is made of the Summit Medical Group where doctors are using wireless prescription services from their PDA's.

Those in the blogging world can appreciate this quote: University of Tennessee law professor and blogger Glenn Reynolds has been known to expound from his laptop at the Mellow Mushroom..."[ I guess this is some sort of cafe offering wi-fi]
