Help... How do I get a nice, easy subscribe by email device??? (and email updates on comments)

I've been doing this for 'bout a year and a half now but still haven't found a way to get a nice easy 'subscribe by email' box on my weblog... and am starting to suffer!

Currently I'm using Watch That Page which is great (heck, you may even be using it reading this... not that I can find out how many people are as Radio doesn't give me an email address so I can't prove I'm a webmaster... uuuuuuuhhhhh) but a. it's not a field so people can't simply chuck in their addys (they have to create a WTP account) and b. I can't control it (this is a relatively minor problem :o)

Bloglet doesn't seem to work / keeps on mucking up / the email supplied doesn't work and it doesn't have any help forums.

What would be wonderful would be if I was able to do this with a Wordpress plug-in (which I'm thinking of changing to soon) I've found some forum things on that but it's sooo complex it gives me the jitters. What would be great is an app that just checked my RSS feed every day and emailed out new posts in a daily batch to whoever chucked their addy in the box. Does this exist?

(also... getting a built in comment tool where you can subscribe for email updates on comment / trackback threads would seriously float my boat... any thoughts?)

Possible Innovation Conference In Melbourne

Cameron Reilly is thinking about an innovation conference in Melbourne... that would be fantastic! Here's the possible theme:

""examining which businesses are putting into practice relatively new technologies to improve their agility and then examining what methodologies they have adopted to allow them to integrate them quickly into their businesses". We'll look at technologies from blogs to wireless networks, from Tablet PCs to web services." [cameronreilly]

Wiki as a support desk / Open source software

Todd goes off (wonderfully) on one about using Tiki as a support desk for BlackBoard and this thought has gone through my mind (and my mouth... occasionally and rather poorly formed) quite a few times... of course related to our own Evil Management System (EMS) ;o)

While I love the idea of people being able to simply create, update and manage help documents to support your average EMS though I've got a couple of issues:

Firstly, where the bloody hell are these resources from the EMS themselves??? How many hundreds of thousands of $s do they extract from institutions and what kind of quality support websites (simple step-by-step 'how-tos' for example) do they provide????

Secondly, when they are bringing out another new version every 6 months (dare I say for commercial purposes...) which usually tweaks and changes stuff all over the place because they didn't get it rght... anywhere near right... in their 1.0, these documents get outdated / inaccurate within weeks... and who are you, as a small organisation, to support their continued development???

And don't anyone say 'we should get together and collectively support use'... have you seen the latest IPO!!!

<Caaaaalming down> Instead, what I see Tiki (and other resources like PHP BB) providing is the opportunity for really good support forums with email updates on postings, RSS feeds and and excellent search backend. The first example I saw of this working really well was with the Radio forums and since then plenty more [even though I admit that the Tiki forums don't seem so searchable or easy... but am sure that can be tweaked). The webserver I use pSek also has a pretty cool element where you enter your ticket and before you submit you get a listing of possible solutions matched to the content of your query... works well.

Anyway, onto the 'unsupported software'.... our 'supported software' has had key components (such as the synchronous communication tool!!!) not work for over a Semester now... great help... and of course, the number is only good for your admin staff (students can't use it!) who know exactly how to search forums and help topics to get solutions anyway... if it's proprietary though I guess you can't fix it so it's useless anyway. Hey ho.
