Should I keep sending email updates?

Right then, I'm going to be shifting publishing platforms to WordPress soon and moving to incsub.org and am spending far too much time worrying about whether I can get an 'email me updates' tool (similar to the 'Watch This Page' tool I use for this page but which a. is a bit crap and b. doesn't work with WP very well) so that people can receive new posts through email. I've discussed the merits or otherwise of this at length but just can't make my mind up.

So I'm gonna have to ask you:

Should I keep sending email updates?

If this doesn't get any response I'll stop worrying about it and just provide a good ol' RSS feed. If you think I should (regardless of whether you receive them or not) please do leave a note... as they'll disappear pretty soon if you don't!

Quills

Mmmm as pointed to by Tom an enterprise weblogging system based on Plone... Quills?

"Quills is an Enterprise Weblog System for the Plone content management system. It is designed from the ground up to work well and provide specialized features for a multi-blog, multi-user environment." [EtriaDeveloper]

Looks promising... but not half as promising as Tom doing it himself!

Blogtalks book

Yay, better late than never... the Blogtalks book has arrived :o) Wonder if there's another one coming out of 2.0 and if it'll be as interesting as this one?

Monday Morning Stuff

Having a go at putting stuff together in one post after I've gone through my Bloglines list...

Stephen points to some nice new(ish) blogs, the ones that caught my attention were The Art of Knowledge & Yan Knows What but where oh where oh where are the feeds??? I don't get it, at least half of the blogger blogs I end up at don't seem to have feeds (why on earth aren't they default???) and shouldn't every blog package be pushing these as no. 1 priority (above comments, trackbacks, look 'n feel.....)  And why don't bloggers (OK, these are relatively new 'uns... like I'm a seasoned pro ;o) stick their feed at the top, preferably in a big orange box, where we can see it?

Tom talks about Insticki which I've seen but not mentioned before. It looks like a nice desktop based publishing tool... a bit like Radio... and I totally see where Tom's coming from in that you can run it without stressing out your admin people but at the same time, the only way it's going to work is if you're permanently online and using the IP address of your PC. So... basically it's an in class tool which, given the value of wikis as asynchronous collaboration tools kinda confuses me and makes me think that, as an individual teacher, you're probably much better off figuring out how to host your own wiki (finding a hosting company like pSek who have an instant installer like Fantastico - although not without it's hiccups) or shelling out for something like EditMe.

Oh yes, and (quite pathetically) I am excited that I'm on 99 Bloglines subscribers :o) go on, show incsub to a friend and get me over the 100 mark... it'll help me get through a week which is mostly going to be spent figuring out how to put together fractionally decent websites.... hmmm.

[Update, well you probably shouldn't really... Tom informs me that Insticki runs just as well off a server... I guess my thoughts about the possible usefullness of hosting a wiki from your desktop without a website still stand but fall not at the feet of Insticki]
