Bloglines emails... just don't go there (at least not yet)

OK, doesn't look like the bloglines email invites are quite up to the mark, ahem:

  • First they start off  'Fellow Bloglines User' (who said that I was sending these to Bloglines users... according to the site it's about "If you like Bloglines, spread the word! Tell a friend about Bloglines and get them started with the feeds you select."????)
  • Kiss goodbye to any formatting in your personal message, it'll just turn up as a bunch of text
  • (perhaps most irksome) The blogs are listed with images... which naturally don't get through my institutional email squash and make it look like porn
  •  Maybe it's just me but the link it gives seems to log me in (cookies or no cookies) seems to log me directly into my account... which is odd... what if I'm not a subscriber?

With the 'bloglinesiverse' which the bloglines blog seems to be aiming at (together with the fact that it has no atom or RSS feed, just a 'subscribe to Bloglines' button!) I'm starting to get a bit shirty with 'em.

[Update... OK, haven't read any comments yet just got in and realised how wrong a lot of this is... a. Bloglines recognised that I was a user from my email addy, duh b. hence the link, duh duh. But I stand by the others, shall have to see if it works or not? I was in a naaasty mood last night too... probably the result of trying to learn CSS all on me lonesome

AND they do have an RSS feed :o): http://www.bloglines.com/blog/USERNAME/rss where USERNAME is your Bloglines user name ... so less evilness which makes me happy of a morning]

Wikiwork

Ken blogs his idea to get students contributing to Wikipedia as part of an assignment... it's a good one and I would have dropped off a comment if I hadn't had to log in, forget my username, lose my password, get reminded about it and eventually get it in the email as I'm writing this... c'mon Ken, there's levels of control and levels of control :o)

(I hate the way Manila does that by default too... if there's one thing about comments then its having them protected but easy... I think Alan's are a nice midpoint)

So what did I want to say, um, yes, I'm working (every now and then) on a project with our Faculty of Ed to get students wikiing their lesson plans / activities... the idea being to share plans, resources and approaches, learn from each other and have something to draw from for future practicums and in the real world. Seems like a good plan, we'll see how it goes.
