Got Scoot! This last weekend there was a scooter rally (The September Shindig) in the San Jose area. Saturday morning I went to Los Gatos and was there as scooter owners gathered for a social ride to Santa Cruz. There was a variety of scooters there, mostly Vespas. The scooter owners were nice and I spoke with many of them.
After the rally Susie and I went to San Francisco. Our first stop was First Kick Scooter. I had been drooling over a Vespa P200 they offered to restore to new like-condition for $3200. By the time I added the options I wanted, the cost had reached almost $4000. That is a lot for an over 20 year-old scooter that sold new for about $1000! Eric at First Kick was very nice to Susie and I, but I was not ready to spend that kind of dough.
The next place we went to San Francisco Scooter Centre. The owner Barry Gwin (and all the folks we met there) are also very nice. They have 2002 new Bajaj's (almost a Vespa) on sale for $1649 (plus tax, DMV, etc. that's just a bit over $2K.) Barry took me for my first scooter ride ever. It was a blast!
I bought a new Legend. The next day Barry and an associate delivered it to our home (they were coming to the rally anyway.) Now the question is, what do we name it?
