Another day in Paradise
Steve Sloan's weblog. A bit tech, a bit bikes, a bit family, a bit friends, a bit yoga, a bit photo, a bit trains, and a bit fun. Eight bits; that's a byte!

The first of several old photos

Steve Junior with sparker July 04, 1992

Kenneth was sick from school the other day so I was home taking care of him. Kenneth is fine now, but he gave us a scare. As Kenneth was sleeping I scanned some old photos in the den, next to his bedroom. I will be posting several of those! My digital camera is shot (see below.) I hope you enjoy the photo of Steve Jr. It was shot over eleven years ago. This photo was made by combining a very slow shutter speed with a flash at night. In essence, I was painting the photo with the light of the sparkler and stopped the shadow detail with the strobe.

As I said, the digital camera is broken

On Feb 15, 2003 I purchased a Nikon Coolpix 2000 camera from Wolf Camera in Saratoga. In a word, this camera is a piece of junk. I own many Nikon Cameras and lenses from 20 to 500mm. I have a Nikon slide scanner and have been impressed with Nikon quality until now. This time the digital camera is now not exposing properly and is overexposing images. It also is not focusing properly and images often are out of focus.

Hectic Weekend

On Saturday I went on a long bike ride in Monterey. The ride was cold, hard and long. In other words, I had a great time. Saturday evening we had a block party in our neighborhood. It was great meeting some of our neighbors we do not know well. Sunday we did errands.
