Le Dud
Like so many film adaptations of novels, Le Divorce proves sadly disappointing.
Uncomfortable and twitchy with this modern tale of two Americans in Paris, director James Ivory misses the romance, painting the City of Lights with a world-weary eye instead of gazing at this urban miracle with wonder and affection. As a result, Le Divorce chugs along, amusing in its own way--Kate Hudson is such a natural--but lacks the girly fun of Diane Johnson's witty novel.
Which brings me to the sweaters. Without much else to look at (Paris, hello, you were filming in Paris!), I watched for clothes. Early on Naomi Watts shops for artichokes in a darling chunky cardi--had to be knit from Colinette Point Five--and in one of the film's last scenes, Kate Hudson literally jumps off the screen in a super bulky red sweater coat.
Does anyone, anyone out there at all, know of a pattern, or in lieu of a pattern, a photo of that hot red sweater? We must all knit one, at once! Ooh la la.
