The Tortoise and the Hair

Felt up
Apo-blogia: After a week's break from blogging, brought about by an unexpected business trip to Chicago, where I got to eat my way through Kendall College's fine culinary program, and a mad burst of enthusiasm for our on-going kitchen remodel, it seems time to give up a little something. Above you'll find my first adventures in felting (fulling, I think, is the official term for throwing your marvelous handknits into the washer and watching them fuzz beyond all redemption).
The sea turtle at the top was designed by Linda Taylor of Colorado's own FiberSpace. (Note: That little mother is not a slam dunk--colorwork, shaping, dpns, knit-on-appendages--it's a bit like trying to get a cat into a carrier. But ain't he sweet?) The bag, of course, is one of Bev Galeskas' designs.
All of this felting/fulling--they tell you to put the stuff in a zippered laundry bag for a reason, ever try pulling wet mohair out of the washer?--is in preparation for my inaugural teaching enterprise at the Recycled Lamb in November. (Oh, look, the Lamb has a web site now!) There's another bag I'll post later this week if I can wrestle it into some kind of form. Currently it's a bit misshapen.
Daily rant: Was out for a couple of hours yesterday and saw three homeless people with placards asking for money. How 'bout you talented photogs shoot serial essays from your hometowns and ship 'em off to the White House. "Hello, Shrub, people are hungry out there!"
Duh-doo-run-run: Now he wants $87 billion from Congress and U.N. support. You just spend that political capital, Georgie boy, spend away. Any one else seeing a chink in the Teflon?
