Smokin'
Convergence report: In a word, overwhelming. Hundreds of vendors (OK, I didn't count, but it seemed like hundreds), lots of dazed women drunk with fiber and a coffee bar to keep things moving. Equipment galore, stunning silk weavings, fair trade textiles, looms looming, spinners spinning and knitters...shopping. Take a peak at the vendor list.
Though I have no idea what the scene is like today, yesterday it was even possible to maul fiber in the Habu Textiles booth (a notoriously crowded space at Stitches). Whaddya do with metal and paper yarn?
I've got to say that after the Estes Park Wool Market earlier in the month, I found myself feeling a bit jaded. It was nice not traipsing through sheep dip to access the merchants and lovely to see so much amazing weaving, but I wasn't drawn to the wool or the normal hand-dyed yummies I adore. Been-there-done-that. But I did fall this...Hemp!
For medicinal use only
Lana Hames, the charming owner of LanaKnits Designs/Hemp for Knitting, staffed a small booth filled with DK and sport-weight skeins of gorgeously dyed hemp yarn. With a hand much like linen, hemp is stiff before washing, but then drapes like a dream and wears like iron. For $20 I bought enough sport weight to make this, though I suspect that those off-the-shoulder straps might require a sproingier yarn. I adored her simple jeune fille designs and ponied up for her Bits of Lace Tank pattern.
Convergence continues through July 3.
