Weekend score: I seem to be on a bit of a buying binge, what with all the excitement at Convergence and the arrival of my two skirts from Beqi Clothing ($18 each during her sample sale). Then Sunday, we stumbled upon a weaver at the annual Fourth of July Westcliffe Flea Market and bought this...
Made from recycled tees and sweats
I'm powerless to resist rag rugs. And the weaver, a sunny sort with the stringy weathered limbs of someone who has worked hard out-of-doors, sells her pieces for $20 or two for $35. Her stacks of rugs were irresistable and woven in countless, startling color combinations. She and her husband (a jolly, rounder version of his spouse) do only a few shows, booth rental is too expansive and in the end, all they need is to put a "few beans on the table."
Coincidentally, we made a stop at Wal-Mart Monday to buy a computer cable for my mom and fingered the $2 rag rugs there--100 percent acrylic and thin as a negligee. In contrast, the rug from Rockvale, Colo. provides a thick, soft padding against our bathroom tile.
To contact the Raggedy Rug Company, one must write: P.O. Box 53, Rockvale, CO 81244.
Bad Ass Knitters: Wendy has written a Bad Ass Knitters' Manifesto in the spirit of knitterly empowerment(the Bad Ass Knitter t-shirts rock!). Unfortunately, Ass Bad Knitter syndrome is real; what do you do for us self-deprecating, stash-hiding, guilt-ridden sorts that probably need a can Knitters' Whoop Ass sprayed all over us? Is there an intervention for this sort of thing?
