Radio 10 has been testing on 1395 kHz

The signal sounded great here in Naarden, about 6 km to the west of Hilversum. Went off just before 2000 UTC, and I think that's it for the night. They will officially sign on at 0400 UTC tomorrow, and I for one plan to sleep through it :-)

Thanks guys for all your input. I'm off to bed now, but feel free to keep posting your comments and I'll pick them up in the morning.

Radio 10 back on mediumwave from tomorrow!!

Radio 10 FM will start broadcasting on mediumwave 1395 kHz tomorrow at 0400 UTC. Radio 10's parent company, Talpa, has reached agreement with Quality Radio b.v., the company awarded the licence for that frequency.

Quality Radio and Talpa tried to secure the use of 1008 kHz. Although the British owner of the licence for 1008 kHz, Ray Anderson, said he was willing to cooperate, transmitter operator Nozema (which has already lost financially through delays in the licensing procedure) would not agree. The terms of the deal would have been to hire 1008 kHz for a month initially, with the option of an extension, but Nozema did not see any financial benefit to itself in this arrangement.

So 1395 kHz is the second choice, and the deal with Quality Radio is also for one month with the option of an extension.

BTW perhaps I should explain that I am doing this in my "spare time" at home without access to raw news feeds, so I apologise if the service is not as fast as some of you would like. Do check the comments because some of them contain updates I haven't seen myself. That's why we set it up this way :-)

Breaking news: Sky Radio says Radio 10 deal definitely off!

A press release just issued says:

"Sky Radio Ltd. has definitively decided not to proceed with the purchase of Radio 10. This has just been decided by the Board of News International, the parent company of Sky Radio. The developments of the past few days offer insufficient evidence that the parties can still reach a harmonious agreement.

"Sky Radio Ltd. can meanwhile be heard across the entire country with Radio 103, the Golden Oldies station of The Netherlands."

That's all it says in the press release. We are awaiting an official reaction from Radio 10. Presumably they will now proceed with the court case that was postponed yesterday. Legal opinion here is divided about their chances, but there is a precedent: Radio 538 did succeed in the past with a similar case.
