Sporadic E-rror
In yesterday's Media Network Newsletter I wrote that listeners in the UK were listening to Dutch FM stations via 'Sporadic E'. Glenn Hauser E-mailed the following comments:
"I haven't been following the details of FM DX Holland to UK, but since almost all the UK is less than 500 miles from you, I doubt it`s sporadic E. High pressure? More likely tropospheric DX. Altho there is not a close correlation, Es is more likely to happen over low pressure(stormy areas with lightning), and at considerably greater distances."
Thanks, Glenn, for pointing that out. I have never been much of an FM DX-er, though like most listeners I've heard the odd long distance signal during abnormal conditions. The latest five-day forecast for The Netherlands suggests a cooling off after Tuesday, with daytime highs returning to normal values for this time of year. Hopefully it will also bring an end to the silly rumours of imaginary stations people are circulating on the Internet. It's hard enough trying to keep track of the real stuff without these idiots wading in with daft messages.
