RFTagAware from ConnecTerra

ConnecTerra announced availability of their new RFTagAware server.  ConnecTerra has built on their legacy of offering adapters for managing devices at the edge of the network including RFID readers.

RFTagAware solves the problem of managing large sets of readers from multiple manufacturers and it also filters and aggregates data from readers.  ConnecTerra's RFTagAware server generates Application Level Events (ALE) that can be easily consumed by enterprise applications upstream.

RFID has been used in libraries for years

Libraries have been tagging books with RFID since the turn of the century.  Checkpoint Systems (not to be confused with firewall specialist Check Point) has been building library inventory systems since 1967 and employing RFID in these systems since the late 1990s.  Recently, they’ve expanded their RFID emphasis by investing in Goliath Systems and adopting ePC.

When Checkpoint installed their system in the Alhambra, CA libraries in 2001, privacy was not a concern.  The focus was benefits including reducing lost books and freeing librarians from repetitive operational tasks.  With the Checkpoint system, librarians were able to spend more time helping patrons and they suffered fewer repetitive stress injuries.
