Start With The Customer, Not The Product

The next time you create a product to sell, start with your potential customers instead of the product idea.  What do your customers want?  What problems do they have that you can solve?  What pain can you help them avoid?  How can you make their lives easier?

Always start with the demands of your potential or existing customers, and you will virtually guarantee the success of your product.  If you simply create a product first, and then try to push it on a customer base that has zero interest in your "great product" you'll fail every time.  A great way to determine customer interest is to check best seller lists at Amazon.com, The New York Times, etc.
