Yesterday I advised folks to fire up their file-sharing tools to get a
listen to the finest of Ray Charles' music. Now, the RIAA hasn't come
down on me yet, but I found an easier way to get the goods for at least
a few listens.
The good folks at Rhino Records have put up a very nice tribute page.
You'll find a bunch of quotes from Rhino executives saying what a
wonderful guy he was, a standard record-company bio and (of course) a
link to the Ray Charles Rhino store. All that is well and good. But
what you really get is a link to the complete run of the greatest-hits collection, Anthology.
RealPlayer, Windows Media (in dialup and broadband feeds) and QuickTime
too. Twenty tracks, just phenomenal. The only complaint is I couldn't
reach the page with my Linux browsers (Konqueror or Mozilla). No
problem in Windows though. Enjoy!
NPR's Weekend Edition also paid tribute to Brother Ray
(audio link) this morning. It noted that his final CD will be released
in August, a album of duets with modern artists like BB King did a few
years ago. It concluded with a fine track with Bonnie Raitt. Certainly
looking forward to that. Thanks to NPR.org for the link to the Rhino site. You can hear more of Ray's appearances on various NPR shows here.
No telling how long this stuff will be up there, especially the Rhino
page, so get moving. I dare you to get any work done while the
Anthology's playing, though. You just gotta keep moving!
