(I posted a version of this to the SEA-EAT blog, but to cover all bases, I'll throw it up here too.)
"Democracy Now!" (which, as usual, is doing an excellent job on this story) reported this morning that the East Timor Action Network in the US and Tapol, the Indonesia Human
Rights Campaign in the UK are collaborating to get aid to grassroots
organizations in Aceh.
As we discussed yesterday, Aceh is a region in revolt, so politics may
play a role in what sort of aid gets to the people there (and as many
as 25% of the province's population may have died Sunday).
ETAN
is also organizing support for increased aid from the US government.
Secure Online Donations can be sent and information on contacting
Congressional representatives can be gotten at:
http://www.etan.org/action/action2/23alert.htm#Donate%20to%20Aceh%20relief
The appeal from Tapol reads:
Please make a donation, however small, to the Aceh emergency appeal fund.
TAPOL will forward all donations to grassroots humanitarian organisations in Aceh.
Payment options:
* Send a cheque payable to Aceh Appeal Fund to TAPOL, the Indonesia
Human Rights Campaign, 111 Northwood Road, Thornton Heath, Surrey CR7
8HW, UK.
* Make a deposit in the following bank account: Tapol; Account no. 50094435; The Co-operative Bank; sort code 08-90-79.
* Make an online donation (same link as above).
For more information, email tapol@gn.apc.org or phone 020 8771 2904
Thank you.
