At the very moment I'm trying to figure out how to describe installing SUSE 9.2 to the audience out there panting for SUSE Linux Unleashed, Novell goes and announces the release next month of v9.3. Thanks guys!
OK, now that I'm done venting, I can tell you it's going to be a great release. Here's the InternetNews story that hits the high points. The biggest news is that GNOME will move from 2.6 to 2.10 (which only came out yesterday). It will also have Eclipse 3.01, and the virtual-machine builder Xen, which I'm looking forward to trying out.
Anyway, with some good fortune, I'll be finished writing before 9.3 is
released. Then I can try it out relatively guilt-free. Saturday, the Milwaukee Linux User Group is hosting a Novell guy to talk about "Novell's Linux Strategy." So there will be more to report then.
Meanwhile, on a completely irrelevant note, my UW-Milwaukee Panthers
are in the NCAAs! You missed a great game on ESPN the other night as
they beat Detroit 58-57 on an off night for the Horizon League
championship. This is a balanced team with two great players and a
solid pressure defense. Not to mention an outstanding coach, Bruce
Pearl. So when you're filling out your brackets on Monday, you just
might want to pick one 14 seed (that's where ESPN and CBS have them) to
win. Oh, and UW-Madison is the 3 seed in the Big Ten tourney this
weekend. Another good team, and slated for a 6 or 7 seed next week.
