Serious question

How is it that some adolescent boys shower yet their feet remain filthy?  Do you keep your socks on?

Enquiring minds would love to know...

Where leukaemia meets its match

The Anthony Nolan Trust:

"Founded in 1974 as the first Register of volunteers willing to donate bone marrow in circumstances where a match cannot be found within a patient’s family, The Anthony Nolan Trust now holds one of the largest databases of unrelated donors in the world. The Trust owes its existence to the determination of Shirley Nolan, who established the Register in an attempt to save the life of her son, Anthony; a little boy born in 1971 suffering a rare bone marrow disease which left his immune system unable to fight infection...."

Marrow-UK is a sister-site.  MARROW is a project that works in conjunction with 'The Anthony Nolan Trust' (above) to offer all students in the UK the chance to join the stem cell register.

"Every year, 1,000s of people with bone marrow diseases such as leukaemia, aplastic anaemia and inborn metabolic and immune deficiency disorders, reach a stage where their chance of survival is a bone marrow transplant. Family members, particularly brothers and sisters, can make the best matches. However, this is not always possible and patients must hope that an unrelated volunteer donor will be found. But this relies on people like you willing to give up a little, to give the most precious gift - the gift of Life! All that is required is for you to undertake a very simple procedure under general anesthestic. Two nights in a London hospital and you too could offer life where there is only hope. Before you can join the register, your health is checked thoughly."

Give it a go.

Doctor Fish

In a February edition of the BMA News (yes I am behind) there is an article about an unconventional source of relief for those with psoriasis. 'Doctor Fish' (Cyprinion macrostomus) and Garra rufa fish (brown grey or beige) strike, nibble and lick away psoriatic scales. No mention of it being sore so I assume it doesn't hurt.

There are spas where this can be practiced-  Kangal Sivas, Turkey

Water, water not quite everywhere

BBC World Service is running some reports to mark the U.N.'s 2003, year of Freshwater.  Reports span the globe and continents. There is also the opinion of the recent Third World Water Forum.  Basically just talk.
