5 Reasons You Need an IRA. Reduce taxes, build wealth, retire in style -- and stop throwing your money away. [The Motley Fool]

Note to self.

Frederick L Collins. "There are two types of people--those who come into a room and say, 'Well, here I am!' and those who come in and say, 'Ah, there you are.'"

Last quote of the eve.  I know that I can be the latter type of person, but I'm better at being the first.  With my arms up and my chin slightly tilted...Here I am.

David Assael. "Be open to your dreams, people. Embrace that distant shore. Because our mortal journey is over all too soon."

Marva Collins. "Trust yourself. Think for yourself. Act for yourself. Speak for yourself. Be yourself. Imitation is suicide."

I think both of these tie into that feeling I just mentioned of getting too tied up in the distractions of life.  We need reminders of our dreams. We need to be individuals.  It's so easy to let the distractions float you along...and then you wake up one day and wonder what happened to your goals. To your voice.  To your self.

Sometimes I get caught up in the parts of life that don't matter.  Work being a little too busy. Having to deal with annoying people.  Distractions.  And then I find myself again.  Tonight I was sitting with a group of about 10 people, having a couple of drinks, telling holiday stories and laughing. Lots of laughing.  I realized that I CAN be very outgoing. I don't really mind making fun of someone (in an honest and silly way, not intended to hurt feelings).  I like to say shocking things.  And that regardless of how long someone knows me, I can say things that are shocking to them because my personality seems to give off 'sweet' even when my words aren't...as sweet.  :)

Maybe it's not that those other things don't matter - it's that those are not what I want to remember about my mortal life. I want to remember being 26, sitting in a bar and laughing with strangers and friends alike.

Socrates. "Think not those faithful who praise all thy words and actions; but those who kindly reprove thy faults."

I do love friends that can tell me when I'm not being my best, but don't make me feel bad about it.  I can learn and improve without feeling like an idiot!

Chinese Proverb. "He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever."

Good thing I always ask a lot of questions. heh.  Those 5-minutes do add up...

Services, meet process. The current focus of most SOA development is the creation of more flexible systems. That's a fine objective, but it's ... [Loosely Coupled weblog]

(highlight):
The simple moral of this story is to always beware of popular expressions and acronyms when talking about emerging technologies, because people may be using them with meanings you're not aware of. Consider where they're coming from before you evaluate what they're saying. The culture gap is particularly wide between systems people and business people. Here are some simple rules of thumb to be going along with:

  • Automation is what technology does. Technology operates to precise metrics.
  • Process is what people do. People operate in an uncertain world.
  • Services are a bridge between people and technology. They make automation available within processes.

When the sort of people who work with technology talk about services, they have a different concept in mind than the sort of people who direct and maintain processes. When these two sorts of people get together, they can have entire conversations with each other and take away completely different understandings of what they just agreed.

Match.com Adds Telephone 'Speed Dating' (Reuters). Reuters - Internet dating company Match.com on Thursday announced a new service that marries "speed dating," the latest dating trend, with old school telephone technology. [Yahoo! News - Technology]

I'm just getting back into the online dating.  It's funny. It can be fun.
