What's Your Plan? - Great article from [John Porcaro: mktg@msft]
Here's the part that really hit-home for me:
1) If you're going to stay in your job, what can you do to expand your responsibility--to become an expert in your field? What can you do to be the best in the company at what you do? What can you do to leverage your skills and talents to drive the business forward, even if it's not in your job description?
2) If you're going to move on, what are you moving to? What skills will be required? How can you acquire those skills? Can you volunteer to "apprentice" with a co-worker? Can you take a class? Can you sit on the board of a local non-profit?
I go through this a lot in my head. Do I stay at my current job and work to make the most of it? What is the most I can make of it? If I could do something different, what would it be? And what would I need to do that? Simplay stated questions, that are not easy to answer and implement.
