Oracle are going to start supporting PHP, the number one web scripting language, with Oracle Application Server, according to this new PHP Statement of Direction just released on OTN.

Support will initially consist of documentation for installing and configuring PHP to work with Apache 1.3, the web server used as the basis for the Oracle HTTP Server Powered By Apache.

With the upcoming Oracle Application Server 10G, support will be increased to include documentation on installing and use of PHP version 4.3 with the application server OHS service (i.e. the Apache HTTP Server).  For that release PHP and its documentation will only be available as a download via OTN, and Oracle plans to provide support for PHP in a similar manner as it now supports Perl.

For Oracle Application Server 10G Release 2 (10.0.3), the plan is that both documentation and a version of PHP will be included in the release CDs, and additionally, integration with Install, DCM and other core Oracle iAS facilities is planned, with further integration with SSO a possiblity.

Excellent news.
