This weekend was the hottest on record in the UK, and like most people in Brighton, I spent part of the weekend down at the beach. Here's a few photos.

Another new feature of Oracle Database 10G being revealed at Oracleworld is the SQLAccess Adviser.

Using either a graphical user interface, or a PL/SQL package, the SQLAccess adviser recommends the best combination of indexes and materialized views to support a set of queries, and will generate the scripts to implement the instructions.

This appears to be a further development of the existing Oracle 9i features such as the Summary Adviser Wizard, the Index Adviser, DBMS_OLAP.RECOMMEND_MVIEW_STRATEGY and DBMS_OLAP.GENERATE_MVIEW_SCRIPT, so it'll be interesting to see which areas they've improved. The presentation is going to be given by Lillian Hobbs, author of the definitive Oracle 9i Release 2 Data Warehousing book, so i'll look forward to downloading the presentation and paper when it's available.
