Toronto Python User's Group

Thinking about the Microsoft event yesterday and Paul Murphy's skill at presenting, brought to mind the fact that the night before the Microsoft event I did a small presentation at the Toronto Python User's Group meeting on our Zope based Learning Management System.

Would that I had Paul Murphy's skill at presentation! Anyway I thought that my presentation went well -- probably not the kind of presentation they are used to as most there were hard core techies. But the key was meeting a group of enthusiastic Python developers.

Microsoft Security Briefing Toronto

I just yesterday attended a "security briefing" day for MIcrosoft developers (various counts but 1200 was the number most mentioned as attending). About 80% of the presentation for the day was done by Paul Murphy.

What a great technical presenter this guy is -- he stood up, presented all day interspersing real time coding, testing, power point slides with nary a glitch. Some of the information was over my head, some was useful but all-in-all I didn't feel I wasted my time (as often happens at technical presentations with this many people involved). The only offputing thing is that the guy looks like he is about the same age as my children (another notch on the getting old belt I guess). And at the end of the day when Steve Ballmer, the final speaker, was a little late he stepped quickly into the breach again to answer more questions as a time filler.
