Has Microsoft lost its way?

I am just wondering what is going on at Microsoft. It seems a much delayed,  emasculated Vista/Longhorn is being delayed yet again by a reported 60% rewrite (with attempts to spin the delay into the positive), missing the critical holiday sales period (maybe it was never going to make it anyway?). My money is on yet more delays.

That is also delaying Office 2007 it appears. Jim Allchin is retiring (long since announced but seemingly related). There is a shake up at the Windows division that is likely related to the Vista screw ups. This can't be positive for Microsoft stock or employee moral.

I can't help thinking this picture of Bill Gates somehow mirrors the current Microsoft situation -- thin, wan (perhaps even sickly?) but with a game face.
