Iraq Won't Siphon U.S. Troops from Korea, Rumsfeld Says [U.S. Department of State]
The United States has no plans to reduce the number of U.S. forces in South Korea to meet the demands in Iraq, says the U.S. Secretary of Defense. But Donald Rumsfeld, in a November 19 interview with the Yonhap News in the Republic of Korea, said technical advancements in defense systems in the future will permit the United States to maintain or even increase its military capability on the Korean peninsula with fewer military personnel in place there.
