We are headed to the beach.  Haven't had a vacation since last winter and looking forward to it.  A friend has a beach house on the Emerald Isle so we are going to take her up on her offer.

While there, Don Vaughan has invited me to go fishing on his new boat.  Don says Keith Holliday will be in tow as well.  Guess everyone is ready for a break.

I suppose that this invitation means I have moved towards joining the establishment, huh?  I will resist... I promise.

I just added a link to the Greensboro Resident's Forum.  The forum was begun a couple of weeks ago by an anonymous moderator.  The forum would have more credibility if we knew who he/she was imho, so I requested disclosure.  He/she disagreed in a personal email reply that should have been posted but has not... yet:

"...I'm sure some people in Greensboro would not come near this forum if they knew who I was simply because I have a reputation for taking certain sides on certain issues.  For example, if Jim Melvin were to try and openly start a group like this one, how fair would everyone think that group is?..."

Actually I would prefer to know if Jim Melvin was moderating, his presence would make for an incredible forum.  I have my idea of who it actually is because of his writing style in that he/she never stops one thought before beginning another.  (Hint TJ, it is called a paragraph)

Anyway, I have joined and look forward to some lively and informed discussion but it hasn't started out very well in the informed part.

The moderator brought up the issue about the bonuses that have been doled out in secret by the County Manager's office which are now the subject of a lawsuit on the part of the Rhino Times and the News & Record to obtain disclosure of where the monies went.  He/she states that the bonuses that are now under scrutiny where given to school staff and the that the school system is the one that is stonewalling.

From everything that has been reported so far about the bonuses, there is no indication that they were exclusive to the staff at Guilford County schools.  However, I hope that it is revealed that the bonuses were indeed granted exclusively to school employees and that those employees were exclusively classroom teachers, but I seriously doubt that that will be the case when it is all finally aired.

If something interesting happens at the forum, I'll let you know.

City Manager Ed Kitchen is moving forward with his directive from Council to evaluate and make plans for post minor league War Memorial Stadium as evidenced by this memo to Parks & Recreation Commission Chair Cheryl Collins.

As a member of this Commission I hope to take a lead role in the redevelopment of not only War Memorial but also the surrounding area which is the second and third part of Kitchen's action plans.

The Aycock Neighborhood's Strategic Plan (PDF File) was adopted by a unanimous resolution of the City Council last night is now city policy.  One of the "big three" elements of the adopted plan is Aycock's vision for the stadium area dubbed Veteran's Plaza which is depicted here.

Our vision calls for new mixed use development around the stadium and an expansion of the City owned Farmer's Market   Veteran's Plaza will become a vital part of downtown Greensboro.
