One good wine deserves another...
Following up on the San Simeon Pinot Grigio, I opened a bottle of Chardonnay, one that I brought back from my last romp through Sonoma. This time I found myself romping through the beautiful Keller Estate, at the prompting of Alder over at Vinography. Of course, tasting at the vineyard is always a different experience than tasting at home. Naturally, I'm always a little hesitant, wondering... "will it taste as I remember it?" Actually, if its possible, I like it more!
The Keller Estate Chardonnay, 2003 La Cruz Vineyard represents what I think good New World Chardonnay is becoming about: the gentle, elegant balance of nut and fruit and oak and spice. Not dripping in butter or oak, there's a brightness to this Chard, and an underlying mineral quality and character that I think actually holds the wine quite nicely through the second glass.
Again, I hate to have to tell my friends that enjoy this bottle with me, alas... not in Pennsylvania. But, if you are headed toward Sonoma, Keller Estate is a must on your way-- even it it's just to buy a bottle or two!
