Flu Bug...Yuck!
One of the joys of approaching winter is the annual appearance of influenza.
Most of the epidemics begin in Asia in late summer and sweep west to
the USA. Peak time in the States is February, but you can get it early.
I did, and that explains my silence for the past week.
Ten days ago I met with a new group of graduate students, and two of
them were from Formosa. Within 3 days I had a sore throat, fever,
aches, chills, and many far more nasty symptoms. At this writing, I
still have the bug, but it's beginning to depart.
Big irony: I am scheduled to get my annual flu shot in another week. I
guess the warranty on last year's shot ran out a bit early.
So I pass on this advice to all of you: be sure to arrange to get a shot, and keep your distance from recent Asian travelers.
