Springfield: no Podunk

One of my favorite web sites is e-Podunk, a guide to over 25,000 USA communities. I find it handy for trip or retirement planning, when I want a quick overview of a town's amenities and attractions.

The site's entry on Springfield is interesting, and it offers a set of historic postcards (all way before our time) that you may mail to friends.

Most of the information seems accurate, though Kathleen Turner, listed as a famous person from our town, was actually born in Springfield, Missouri.

Podunk means a small, out-of-the-way, unimportant place. As the site reveals, the word may be of Indian origin and several towns in the USA use it as a name.
