Still in Austin at Day Two of NI Week. Theme of the day's keynote was "Embedded." NI has released tools for design, prototype and deployment of embedded systems. Coupled with its Compact RIO (stands for reconfigurable I/O) platform, NI people express amazement at the myriad of applications that integrators have found. This is a very powerful as well as easy to use (if you know what you're doing of course) platform. Automation OEMs and integrators could use this as a way to more easily design and deploy their custom solutions within a machine.
Right now, 4:21 pm, I'm live from the "experts' forum" and they are just doing the "gee whiz" what's life like in the age of the Internet and Web. If there are standards here that NI can exploit for test & measurement and control, you can bet it will.
Within the conference calendar was a Wireless Summit. It was packed with attendees all day. The Zigbee speaker had a standing room only audience. Every time I stopped by, interest was high. I'd look for more development to come using the technologies involving this networking medium.
