I spent the early part of the week visiting our Chicago office and always find it hard to get work (and blogging) done on these trips. We did have a visit on Tuesday by an entourage from Bosch Rexroth to provide an update on products and business from most of their divisions/product groups. Negin Neghabat provided a Bosch overview (it's about a 4.5 billion Euro company in sales), Joe Biondo spoke on electric drives and control, Danielle Collins on linear motion and assembly, Phil O'Neill on pneumatics, and Paul Stavrou on hydraulics.
They teased us with some cool products coming out later this year. For those implementing or improving their Lean processes, the Bosch Rexroth assembly solutions business can be a help.
I was most interested in the company's new emphasis on building a strong distribution channel in the US. They are trying for a close cooperative relationship with their distributors--especially from an applications engineering view. Done correctly, this should help them increase sales and service over here. The trouble has been that the channel is so different here from Germany that German companies have had trouble translating their models. I'll be interested to see how this works out.
