Yesterday's report about ABB alluded to strong financial results. And indeed, full year orders were up 27 percent, with revenues up 25 percent and order backlog at 44 percent. Earnings before interest and taxes were up 57 percent to $4.0 billion--an indicator of strong management control of expenses among other things.
I've read a little speculation on why Fred Kindle would leave in the face of such great numbers. I should say "idle speculation." Things are usually personal--and usually personality clashes. After growing results, ABB needs to look at the next step. No doubt Kindle and his boss had differing views. Someone new will come in and hopefully not screw up the progress and take the company to the next stage of growth. The company has laid out a plan for the future that the chairman of the board, Hubertus von GrÃ[pi]nberg, stated that he intends to follow it. I expect to see continued strong performance from the company.
