Took me weeks to figure out that Bob Edwards was saying his name because everytime it sounded like he was saying "I'm Baa Bedwards." That was 15 years ago when I first started listening to NPR. I heard Edwards was replaced with a stuffier chin-up morning guy--haven't heard him yet, but I already know he's not as good as Baa Bedwards.
Yesterday I went to see the great Morning Edition guy at Davis-Kidd Booksellers in Nashville. He was finished signing and people were crowding in to shake his hand and get his attention, so I just watched the radio great from a safe distance. Once I moved in to try and shake his hand but abandoned the effort because he was trying to make his way to the door.
It was enough just to see and be in the same room with a guy who could make "21 minutes before the hour" and the same old news cycle an interesting thing to listen to, every day.
