I have on my desk two things related to posture:

  1. An excercise sheet from physical therapist, Ronnie Ritchie, to help my back and encourage good posture to alleviate some recent acute lower back pain
  2. A book manuscript from a man named Ralph Rowe on Kneeling in Worship: A Documentary of The Wonderful World of Worship on Bended Knee. This was sent to me as a pre-publication copy from the author.

Now, pay no attention to the fact that both of these brothers have the initials R.R. - that's beside the point but it is, one would have to admit, an interesting thing to note in a blog. What I would, however, draw your attention to is that both these guys are evangelists of "good postures."

Bowing, Rowe would say, has everything to do with good and honorable worship. Good back posture, Ritchie would say, has everything to do with good back health.

Our Moms and the Marines are right. It never pays to slouch. If you have back problems and need connected with a good physical therapist (and you don't mind driving to Nashville), I'll hook you up with Ronnie. And if you, like me, are just now catching a clue about raising your hands in worship and expressing yourself in ways that bring honor to God and want to know more about Rowe's study of bowing in worship, let me know. Write a comment or use my email: gtaylor@woodmont.org.

Chin up! Shoulders back! Now, bow down...but how when there's a pew in front of me and people are looking?
