Language is history [posted by Troy] Here's a little tid bit of trivia for you. The word stereotype comes from the printing process where a duplicate of type was reused over again. Over time, this became a metaphor for any ideas that are used time and time again to refer to or generalize about a specific thing.

Active vs. Passive [posted by Troy] We had an author speak in our library today. He mentioned that research has demonstrated that people can more easily take in square representations (framed) items than Rectangular representations (framed) because the eye can observe everything in the square all at once, while the eye has to move across the rectangle. This is why people say that watching film (rectangle) is an active experience while watching TV (square) is passive. There's a thought for you.
