SanDisk SD Card with Flip Up USB Update

sandisk_usb_popup_512.jpg imageSanDisk is continuing to show off their new SanDisk Ultra II SD PLUS flash memory card that has integrated USB happiness¡Xthe one where the card folds back to expose a USB connector. No cables, no caps, no card readers, you just plug the card straight into the nearest USB port you can find. I'm the type of person who constantly clicks open and shut his Listerine Pocket Paks case, so I'm curious about the mean time between failures on a device like this. We've covered this before, but now we have the good stuff: 512MB and 1GB capacities at $110 and $150, due out in April.

SanDisk also announced their new waterproof USB flash drives, we guess to compete with the likes of this.

Sony Kills the Clie

peg_s500c.jpgSony Japan has announced that the Clie is kaput in July. That's good, because I always hated looking up the HTML entity for the stupid e. It's bad if you like PalmOS PDAs, though. While there was little hope that Sony would return to Western markets with the PDAs, it was still a boon to PalmSource to have a licensee as big as Sony in the flock. The message, in general, remains clear: Palm-based PDAs are on the outs, and Palm-based smartphones may not be far behind.

Bluetooth iPod 100% Assured (Sort Of)

wireless_ipoda.jpgIt sounds like wireless, Bluetooth iPods are a certainty, either from Motorola or Apple (or both). One of Moto's execs let slip that iPod owners will be able to broadcast music through their car speakers via Bluetooth, as well as plug-in their phones to answer hands-free calls with all the volume management stuff that makes the Bluetooth audio/phone/stereo three-way so hot. The question is whether this is a new peripheral or a new model of iPod with Bluetooth built-in. While the latter would have a much higher slickness index, my money is on the former.
