Shuffle Art Archive

shuffle_aa.jpgIn what is hopefully my last iPod post of the morning, I have to note that the Shuffle Art Archives are great. I don't know who sent me the link¡XI woke up this morning and it was on my desktop, which happens more often than I'm comfortable with¡Xbut thanks.

What is it? It's remixed iPod shuffles, both in real life and the Republic of Photoshop.

Hasbro Tooth Tunes: Musical Toothbrush

hasbro_tooth_tunes.jpg imageWhat better way to get your kids to brush twice daily than by pumping two minutes of Raffi through their bicuspids? Hasbro's "Tooth Tunes" just does that. At the push of a button, the brush starts to play back the recording stored in it through a built-in transducer. The sound flows from the front teeth to the jawbone and then to the inner ear. Hasbro's talking to various artists about getting rights to their recordings. Test models with Nine Inch Nails' Closer did not make it to market.

Sensitive Objects

sensitive_objects.jpg imageSensitive Objects technology is a fresh new approach to the touch panel concept¡Xtap the flat surface and the acoustic signature unique to the point you tapped is analyzed. If it's recognized, the intended action is executed. While that's not new to touchscreens (surface acoustic analysis has been used for a while in flat-panel touch-screens), it looks like Sensitive Objects is trying to apply the technique to a whole range of objects, so that your future gadget might respond to touches all over, not just on its screen.

LoungeLight LED Candles

loungelight.jpgMom got me these Candela Rechargeable Lamps for Christmas, and despite her typical, sheepish excuses, they are actually sort of cool. I wouldn't explore an abandoned mine with them or anything, but they serve as occasional, dorky ambiance. These LoungeLight LED Candles, however, are way cooler (sorry Mom). Each way has a built-in LED and battery that lights the wax from the inside, providing a hippie fusion that really sets off your felt posters. And you can refill them (if you buy more candles from ThinkGeek), so it's not like it burns down so far then starts a chemical fire.

Fujitsu to Release 120GB Laptop Drive

fujit120.jpgLaptop hard drives are great, because they are so much easier to shoplift. I mean, you can put a 3.5-inch drive in your pants, but those little 2.5-inch jobs go in a front pocket, or even behind a wallet. Seriously, it's like digging up dead babies and candying them. Fujitsu would like you to know that they'll be making a new, higher capacity 120GB version very soon. They didn't mention how fast it was going to be, but I'd expect 4200RPM at best, or maybe 5400 if we're lucky. If you're the kind of person who replaces laptop hard drives with some frequency (they also make fine portable FireWire drives, as well), this will be good, if inevitable news.

Update: It's just 4200RPM. Ah me. (Thanks, Robert!)
