One Of Us Is Smarter Than All Of Us. Why I talk so frequently about autonomy and diversity: "The wisdom of crowds comes not from the consensus decision of the group, but from the aggregation of the ideas/thoughts/decisions of each individual in the group." In other words, "Paradoxically, the best way for a group to be smart is for each person in it to think and act as independently as possible." Via elearnspace. Jackito For Real? Again

jackito.jpg imageIt's been quite some time since we addressed this, but it appears the "Jackito" thumb-operated PDA still lives. The product page has an "order" option with $600 price tag, so I guess that means they're ready to actually start shipping the damn things. For those of you that missed the "announcement" 9 months ago, the Jackito is a "tactile digital assistant" meant to be operated with the thumbs. You're supposed to be able to easily drag documents between folders and manipulate the OS in other ways, but I believe that in the same way I believe their "7 processor" claims. Even the official website shows some pics of the device with a color screen, and some without. What the hell?

Creative Quietly Launches New Zen

creative_newzen.jpgCreative is apparently launching a new Zen, a full-size version of the Zen Micro, with a 20GB hard drive. Other than the size and capacity increase, it appears to be exactly the same. If you like the Zen Micro¡Xand it's a pretty decent player, for sure¡Xthen you might be excited. The playback time is a little skimpy at 11 hours, but we'll manage.

There's no talk of price or color information, but I'd be surprised if Creative, after all the SKUs they've added to stores lately with the 4/5/6GB Zen Micros, would be reticent to add another dozen or so.

Information overload: concept map.

Information overload concept map. Click to enlargeJust a concept map from information overload workshop. It's a bit drafty... May be Carla will make a nicer copy (I sent this one to her for our project). Or may be I'll find time to blog it properly...
