More Statin Drug Scandal

To listen to or read the media or talk to a doctor, you'd think that cholesterol-lowering statin drugs are so important and well-proven that they should be probably added to the water supply! Indeed the government's recommendations concerning these drugs has lowered the bar for who should take them, with more people now meeting the "recommendation guidelines." Does it strike anyone else besides me a bit odd, then, that eight of the nine prominent physicians reporting and recommending this change to the government have ties (financial) to the drug companies that market them? Group Questions Industry-Paid Doctors. If it doesn't, it should.

Meanwhile, remember what I told you about the FDA's swift-moving effort to regulate the entire nutritional supplement industry, effectively shutting it down to all but pharmacy-manufactured supplements? As further verification of this point, I remind you that our friends at the FDA have outlawed Red Rice Yeast, an effective and naturally-occuring source of statins that is much less expensive and quite a bit safer than the drug versions of same. In case you're not clear, I'll repeat my conviction: the FDA is the lap-dog of the pharmaceutical industry. They are interested in protecting the finances of Big Pharmacy, not in protecting your health. More tomorrow.

Dr. Myatt
