Dragon TV, the popular TV channel from the Shanghai Media Group, will team up with Sun TV Media Group (part of Stellar MegaMedia?) to launch a 104-episode documentary about travel and culture. The series is based on National Geographic's pick of 50 must-see destinations around the world. Each episode is 30 minutes, and the first episode will be aired in January. (source: Shanghai Daily)

Just in time for world aids day Shanghai has launched a new initiative: Condom smart cards. The Shanghai Population and Family Planning Commission distributes these cards for free to residents and 'entertainment workers' in Xuhui and Pudong. With these cards condoms can be obtained for free from 200 smart condom vending machines, by just holding the card in front of the machine. Nowhere it was mentioned what will be done with the data obtained from the card usage. Although I am a resident of Xuhui I have not received my card yet.

The latest plans for the EXPO 2010 in Shanghai were revealed yesterday. The expo will be on both sides of the Huangpu river, between the Lupu and Nanpu bridges. The total area will be over 5 square km, with greenbelts up to 300 meters wide on both sides of the river. There will not be one major landmark, but there will be a cluster of signature buildings. The Maglev will drive from Pudong directly to the Worldexpo site. Not sure if that makes sensde though: most visitors will want to go to their hotels first before going to the Expo.
