I am a bad lawn parent. I admit this. Last fall, citing natural curiosity, I decided not to plant a winter lawn. “Let’s see what happens,” I said — a philosophy that has led to many a bicycle accident, bad date and botulism episode. “What happened” was a vast field of khaki that stood out on my green-lawned street like a Shriner clown at a funeral home.
